Relevant

Every living thing goes through phases, seasons or stages. Organization and Relevant churchchurches are not immune this phenomena, and many a church has experienced seasons of growth followed by seasons of decline.

Some experience seasons of spiritual renewal and at other times seasons of spiritual stagnation or decline. We often blame the devil when churches or church plants don’t develop or grow as we expected. If we don’t blame the devil, we blame circumstance, politics or many other External factors. Most leaders look to themselves as failures when they are unable to keep growth or momentum in a church or church plant.

We then have no choice but to ask the question why? Is the devil really so powerful that he can derail God's church and put an assembly on a declining path. Is he really able to kill the future of a church with a simple few old tricks like gossiping, strive amongst leaders, differences of opinions or lies.

Can it be true that Pastors and church leaders often fail to take note of changing community trends, opinions and preferences and adapt their approach and presentation styles?. Might it be considered for a moment that people no longer go to church because of Quilt, obligation or tradition, but that in this modern age we live in they actually come to get something of value. Could we comprehend for a moment that people do want to know God and contrary to popular opinion still seek God? Can we consider that such seekers are less inclined to look for God in Churches because they perceive Church to be an organization with rules and expectancies rather that a place to meet God.

There certainly was a time when Church was the centre of every town and community and people who did not partake was considered outsiders. There was a time when church dictated the ethics, culture and decisions of a community and its people, but that time is now history. Today people don’t look to the church to guide them in daily life.

The new church of today has to bring a message of relevance to the needs and lifestyle of modern people in our communities. This message should perhaps focus on a personal relationship with God and incorporate a theme that will help people to practice Christianity as a lifestyle.

Through the John Journey strategy we are cultivating a new generation of Christian leaders and churches that moves away from the confines of the institution to the joy of knowing God and being a Disciple of Jesus Christ.
